So What's the Point?

The following is a text message between my 17 yr old daughter and me. Or is it myself?

Background: I grew up Catholic and therefore have all the guilt associated with it. I'm not so much Catholic anymore because I have a lot of issues with some of the doctrines. My daughters are both baptized Episcopalian (or Catholic-Lite), but we don't consider ourselves Episcopal either. Basically we are nothing. I believe in God. My 17yo believes in Wicca, or is a Wicca, or whatever is most grammatically correct. I've had a lot of issues with this, but in the last 6 or 7 years have come to accept it.

Here is our text conversation a few days ago regarding that ex chiropractor that I'm not talking about anymore:

me: So... what do u know abt hexing?

her: Uhhhhh why?

me: I think someone needs to b hexed. U know who it is.
me: Hubby gave permission.

her: lmao. that's very blacky black

me: yeah and...

her: yeah and ur on your own with that :) I'm a good witch :D

me: Oh come on Glenda. It's just a little payback

her: Karma karma karma

me: Oh fine. What good is it to be a witch then if you can't give someone some warts or something?

her: If your magick comes from a place of darkness, then your mind is in a place of darkness. You have to be self aware and conscious of your actions for magick to work its best. It's hard to be self aware and not realize that hate is a pointless emotion from where no actualization can come. Also, it'll slap you a good one.

me: Ur no fun chickie

her: Ultimately he is hurting himself. Is spending that much energy really worth the few moments of satisfaction? There are better places to direct your efforts :)

me: Oh ok. I agree.

her: Rnt u glad to know I'm not in league with satan?

me: yes, of course I am. But then what's the point of having a witch for a daughter?

her: I'm still a teenager. I could go teepee his house

While I have to admit that I'm proud of her responses, I find it a little hard to believe that this is the same teenager that is upstairs right now pissed off that we aren't going out to dinner tonight for her birthday. The same teenager that speaks to me with scorn every time I ask her to unload the dishwasher. The same teen that will fly off the handle if I ask the wrong question. It amazes me that she can be so mature, yet so immature at the same time. While I'm still not completely comfortable with this whole witch thing, at least I don't have to worry about her hexing me.

I do wonder tho, how come she can't cast a spell to make her room clean??

Alas, people are complicated. She's probably blogging right now about how strange it is that her responsible mother asked her to put a hex on somebody upon whom she holds a grudge. Most people are a complex like that. Not me. I'm good all the time.

I vote for letting her TP the house. You get the satisfaction of revenge, while avoiding entanglements with the occult. Plus, if she gets caught, it's her neck, not yours.

Good for her! I knew she was a good witch! And I agree about spending your energy in better ways. If you're that frustrated, come over and clean my house!

Oh silly baby Bambs... thank goodness your daughter hasn't inherited your mean streak. Be patient, she's totally right... there will come a day when his life will totally take a huge dump on his head and you'll still be able to hold your's high. You will quietly remember how he made you feel yet you'll get no comfort when you see him digging for scraps out of a garbage can on a street corner, the satisfaction will come when you toss him an apple core!!!

You can put him (his information, name address, etc.) on a piece of paper, put in a tupperware container, with some soap for cleansing, some rosemary or any herb will do and some myrrh, fill it half full with water and stick it in your freezer. It was my favorite spell to keep some people "chilling out." It worked on most people but not all of them. Maybe I was a bad witch! ;) Don't forget to label it "Do not eat" or "Spell"

I'm all for letting her TP his place! She'll only be a teenager once! I offered to TP #1 Son's golf coach's house and he wouldn't let me.
Mature teenagers. Is that an oxymoron?

Hugs!!

haha - you know what they say - with great power comes great responsibility! She can still be a teenager but good to see she is taking her Witch practice seriously. Otherwise, who knows whaat kind of warts/hair/discolourations you would suffer everytime she was grounded...

Haha I like O's response.

Definitely send her out to teepee. You gotta take what she's willing to give at this point!

I love her maturity. Why can't it be well-rounded maturity? LOL

Isn't it funny how our children teach us some of the most important things?

I would totally use my magical powers for bad. If I had any. ;-)

I believe in Art and Poesy.

I also believe in God. How look at a flower without going, "DUH! Of course there is a God!" The one follows the other with immaculate logic.

Atheists are silly.

I do not think there is any contradiction between believing in God and wicker - I think that is the correct spelling. Wicker is just a kind of dried plant. As long as your teenager is not smoking it there is not a problem.

Install a big cauldron in her room full of boiling potion then stir it and start chanting the loser chiro's name!

You don't need her help to do that!

I think you may have to go toilet paper his house. Will likely piss him off good and well. :) Your daughter is 17 and while she of course is still going to act like she is 17, she sounds quite smart and mature. Be proud. Just know, it's her job to annoy you right now so that when it's time for her to move out you are standing there with her bags packed. :) And then give her a couple of years on her own and she will start acting like this amazing person and realize that you are know a lot and treat you as such and you will wish she was back home. Damn kids!

Don't they say that teens don't have all the connections in their brains hooked up yet? Mature one minute but inmature the next. It's a brain thing...

I loved her final response about offering to TP. :) Her texts are quite mature for a 17 yr old.

And thanks so much for the look into my future in 10 years...from the way things are going here, and based on how you described your daughter, Princess Nagger is going to be JUST like that.

It's Wiccan, and I only know this because one of my daughter's friends is one... and she says that they only practice good magic.
Good on your daughter for having pure thoughts... although I've often been in situations where a little hex would be welcome!

... a hex for the OTHER person, not me!

I LOVE THIS POST! Your daughter is great! Sure, she's a pain most of the time, but that's because she can be....as for her Witch skills, bravo for knowing what the consequences are and talking you down off of a ledge!

Don't let this bonehead chiro suck at your energy, he's not worth it, just like your daughter said, "It's hard to be self aware and not realize that hate is a pointless emotion from where no actualization can come."
Let go of the hate and move on....you're better than he is, in every way.....

hilarious!! Love the offer to TP the house...good point.

However, I'd just like to point out that it is SOOO EASY to talk someone off the ledge (say for instance, someone like me) when you're not the recipient of said unspeakable outrage. Ask her about whether she'd hex that bitch in math class (there's always one, it's a safe bet) then call her hypocritical and demand she use her powers for evil!!

Wait...maybe that wasn't the lesson you were going for??

Ahhh see this is the reason I could never be Wiccan. I'd totally abuse my powers and stuff!! My mom is a practicing Wicca / Wiccan? Whatev...

Wait, you're surprised she's so mature, yet immature and YOU'RE asking her to cast a hex on someone....ummmm....LOL. :-)

Wow - this was hilarious to read. I was also raised Catholic and would consider myself Catholic-lite as I don't believe a lot of what the church has done/does etc. etc. etc.
