Ruminations of the Weekend

  • Walking into a room full of people you haven't seen in 20 years is quite stressful. You think that as a grown woman you can handle yourself in all situations. But driving up to that beautiful house, all those old insecurities come flooding back. Looks? Weight? Hair? Clothes? Success?
  • Walking into a room full of people you haven't seen in 20 years is quite exhilarating. You know all those fears you had a minute ago? Gone in a flash.
  • Being hugged by 40 women in one evening does wonders for one's self-esteem.
  • Being hugged by those same women the next night is even better.
  • Lessons from a nonagenarian:
    • Ladies do not walk around with food and beverages
    • Ladies never walk around with a cigarette
    • Ladies never drink from a bottle (except a water bottle)
    • Ladies sit with both feet on the floor, not with legs crossed
    • Ladies never sit on their boyfriend's (or husband's) laps
    • Ladies do not wear barbaric earrings
  • Mrs S is amazing. I thought so 20 years ago, and I still think so. She is one sharp cookie. Which, of course, she would never eat.
  • People don't really change over time. The quiet ones are still quiet. The loud ones are still loud. The goofy ones are still goofy. Uh oh, which one am I?
  • Unfortunately, for some, cliques don't really change over time either.
  • Wool skirts and saddle oxfords look as bad fashionable today as they did 20 years ago.
  • Where's the spring uniform? The blue, yellow, or pink cotton dress. So lovely.
  • Breast cancer can take your ta-tas, but not your spirit.
  • Everyone should learn to fight like a girl.
  • A solid education is one of the best gifts you can give to your children.
  • Our graduates have been all over the world, from Alaska to New Zealand, from South America to Asia and everywhere in between. Oh, and Destin Florida. Duh!
  • You don't have to be in your 20s to look and feel amazing.
  • The women of SAA class of 1989 are absolutely fabulous. Seriously.

I missed our recent reunion but was able to catch up a little through the powers of facebook stalking! ... It was even better to see all the drunken pics and not be tagged in any of them!

Fun!! I haven't been to a single reunion and am now feeling a little guilty.

"I feel like it'll get lost in the mix (unless of course I think what I have to say is very inspiring or thought-provoking - which is not very often)." Hey, you are NEVer lost in the mix and your lovely comments are always thought provoking and much appreciated. :^) It's fun getting to know you!

What a great reunion experience, it sounds just perfect! And great advice from Mrs. S. My father used to tell me the same thing, no walking and smoking!

I agree. I made such a big deal about going to my 20 before hand and got all stressed about it and all for nothing...so much fun!

Wow... you must be about the same age as me, 33, right? I don't do reunions mainly 'cos anyone who's been around me the first time doesn't want to repeat the experience!

I have never been to a class reunion - I don't want all those people hugging me. Ugh! I stayed friends with people I wanted to bother with, and I talk to some on Facebook, but that's as far as I need to go. Glad you enjoyed yours, though! I did run into some women around town after my 20th reunion, who hassled me about not going. My grandma was actually dying at the time, and I told them to stick it. They were very upset and felt bad that my grandma had died and they were being bitchy about the reunion - I'm glad they felt bad. I hadn't seen them since high school anyway, so why did they care?

Congratulations on hitting your reunion!! I am impressed. I've never had a desire to see my old classmates. I would like to see some woman who retired from work with me. I miss them all very much. I could go for a retirement reunion!!!

Back to your other post... I will now give the darn Walgreens pharmacist a dirty look to speed her along with pill counting!!! I wondered why it took so long while my kid dragged me down the cheap toy aisle. They tend to speed up when I plop down in a chair next to them with the latest people to read from their magazine aisle.

I'll have to live vicariously through you for my 20 year reunion (this August) since I won't be able to make it back to Michigan for it.

Barb: She's sharp too! She knew who I was as soon as I walked in the door. Amazing. Love her!

Otin: why that would be me, silly boy ;)

ED: Yes, the whole FB stalking was discussed, and most people agreed only to post photos that were good of everyone in the picture... although not everyone was in the loop obviously cuz there are some bad ones of me out there!

Willow: this is my first one in 20 years (I think I've missed 2 or 3). It was great. Def will go again.

MWB: we always used to laugh at her theories on how ladies should act, but she has more class than anyone I have *ever* met. Seriously cool lady, that one.

ttj: I so get that! I was all worried and thought about not going! So glad I did!

McG: 33?? Did you not read my last pharmacy friday post? I graduated high school at 8. I'm 28 right now. Duh! AND do you stinking have your BC-Reno tix yet???

Med: I'm not normally a hugger. Seriously when people hug me I'm not a huge fan, but this night was different. These women helped shape who I am (for better or worse). We shared everything for 4 years. So the hugging was a good thing. Sorry about your grandma tho. It's your choice if you want to go to things like this, and if you didn't then it shouldnt have been anyones business. I'm kinda glad you made them feel bad too!

Hit40: I'm totally in for a retirement reunion... when can I retire??

K13: I'm pretty sure you had a great time (since you're living thru me). Sux that you can't make your own tho.

I kept meaning to answer your question but it kept slipping my mind!

When we go to Illinois we stay with my aunt and uncle, who are in Grayslake.

The wedding we were at was in St. Charles.
