Secret 5 - The Shrine

In case you haven't heard, I enjoy a glass or three  of wine. I don't think I have a favorite kind, it really depends on my moods. Lately I have been in a Chardonnay mood. Some of my favorites are Fat Bastard, Estancia, Robert Mondovi. I enjoy a dry oaky chardonnay with hints of citrus (maybe, really I just drink it). I like Pinot Grigio occasionally, but they tend to be lighter and sweeter and I haven't been on a sweet wine kick in quite a while.

However, as the weather turns chilly my taste turns to bolder flavors. I enjoy a bold Cabernet, one of my favorites being Estancia. I like Merlot, but it has to be a really good one because a basic Merlot tastes like sweat socks. At this point I should mention that I have never sucked on sweat socks, but if I did, I imagine it would taste like a crappy Merlot. Rombauer has a good one though if you like them.
Pinot Noir is a good basic red, usually pretty light. My favorite is Sock Eye.

Husband and I have been married for 6 years. Here is our little collection of corks. I've been saving them thinking that eventually I'll do something creative with them. Alas, I am not very creative, so here they sit. Last year I tried making ornaments out of them, but they are fairly crappy. Certainly not something I'd give to my friends. If you have any thoughts (other than the fact that I drink too much) please share!

In Vino Veritas!

When I used to work in the food and beverage industry (now just a compassionate consumer), one of the waitresses used to save all the corks and made bulletin boards. I have no idea how she did it (or even if she really did it), but that was her story. Maybe the Google God has some good ideas...

And then you will have ONE MORE REASON to add to the shrine! : )

you could make platform shoes. Or maybe a flotation device.

pharmacy friday question: I'm allergic to Keflex, what the hell does that mean? Now that I'm self-medicating, what kinda thing should I buy for sinus or ear infections??

cyndy: I've thought of cork boards. I think they should be pretty easy to do for a non-artist like myself. I've also checked out google and found everything from baseboards to walls.
I need something quick and easy that will look beautiful. And that I can actually do...

Otin: Ahhhh put a sock in it.

Michel: good options! I hadn't thought of a flotation device. You must be absolutely brilliant!
I didn't do a pharmacy friday this week because I suck. I will answer it next time.
sorry

Cork boards made out of real corks look awesome and they're easy with a sheet of ply and some super-glue.

Nothing wrong with a glass of wine each day. My favourite is Yellow Tail Merlot. Gotta go in the hospital next week for a few days - wonder if they'll hook me up via IV. Hey question since you are a pharmacist: Should I stop drinking the red wine a few days before my operation? I too saved cork for years - made a lovely cork board for the kitchen - mind you it's too nice to pin anything to. I'll post a pic on my blog in a few days.

What do you think of the benedryl back for advice (a comment from someone) on optimistic pessimist's blog to help her sleep? Maybe, a good question for on friday for you.

I enjoyed your 3 secrets. Go ahead and buy plants to kill. Plants live longer than a bouquet of flowers!! I'll take a plant to kill any day over a $50 bouquet of roses.

Well it would appear that you have never visited the Blue Monkey downtown here in Crime-Free Memphis as all of those wine/champagne corks, and bottles have created a very nice decoration.

PS - yall will love it!

I vote for the bulletin/cork board too. I made one a few years ago and still have it. I love it actually. I can't lay claim though to accumulating the corks on my own...got most from my parents.

Can't think of anything creative at the moment and Hit40 beat me to the benadryl question. Oh wait I have a phramacy friday question: what are your thoughts on taking melatonin every night to sleep? What are your thoughts on taking melatonin with wine?

I'm pretty sure that's my cork collection from last month...is that wrong?

And to optimistic pessimist - while I know nothing of Rx's, I am a pro-Rx mixer (as in, I know I shouldn't but I do). I love melatonin, but that sh!t knocks me out cold. I have to take 1/2. Last time I tried it with wine, I had a sleep hangover and had to call out from work.

i love melatonin, love chardonnay and have faith in my local pharmacist. Your blog brings all these together and make me laugh! wonderful writing, thank you for that...!

As for the corks...toss them. They are the past, onto the future! Have you tried Toasted Head (the chardonnay?)

cheers!

i'm so glad you said that about merlot and sweat socks. my sentiments exactly. and i'm not sure i've ever had a good one. we usually resort to it only after all of the cab or shiraz in the house has gone and it's the last bottle left towards the end of the night...then it lessens the blow of the sweat socks-ness.

and i too have a drawer of corks + a giant bottle full, just waiting for creative inspiration. which has, as of yet, not come. i saw some trivets once, but they're just a bit too twee..but it hasn't stopped me from continuing to save the corks.
