I always do my best thinking in the shower, so today I was thinking about blogging. Prior to this, my life has been sadly blogless - thanks again to Barb for coining this term, or at least passing it on. I was thinking, what on earth could I have to write about that would be interesting to the masses of bloggers and would-be bloggers out there. Really I have no idea. I've always wanted to be a writer, but I'm afraid my imagination sucks. Actually, that's not true, I think I have a great imagination, it's just getting what I'm seeing in my head onto paper that sucks. I have amazing dreams on an almost-nightly basis. I've tried getting those dreams onto paper and it just doesn't work for me. The images in my head just wont go there.
In addition to what I would blog about, I first needed a name. Hmmm. I couldn't use Ginger & Sassy Chronicals...that's already taken. So naturally, the whole Bambi idea came up. I know what you're thinking, assuming you're still there, and it's probably "huh?" so let me 'splain it Lucy. It all started long long ago when I was a mere undergrad at University of Nevada, Reno. My best friend - also name Sue - and I worked in the physical chemistry department. Now, let me stop here and just mention a couple things. First of all, to be a physical chemist, you have to be a bit nuts. That just goes without saying. It's all about lasers and supercritical fluids and densities, and graphs...ugh. In addition, the department is in the basement - yep the basement- of the chemistry department. The experiments had to be done in the dark with just the light of the little green laser for company. So we were stuck in this dark basement room either alone or with a big burly teddy bear of a biker named Wayne. Have you met many teddy bear bikers that know anything about supercritical fluids? Not surprising, Wayne was also a bit nuts. Anyway, to make a long story longer, since we were both Sue, we'd both answer to that name so our prof decided we needed nick names. Mine was, you guessed it, Bambi. (the other Sue's was Thumper, of course). Needless to say, the name stuck.
Now lets fast forward 15 years or so, I'm a pharmacist working for an independent and everyone has a nick name. Usually Lola (aka Karen) doles out the nicknames, but I mentioned that I already had one and, everyone agreed, it fit.
So, first blog under my belt. This is where the name comes from. Next blog? Well I guess I'll figure that out during tomorrow's shower.
Peace and prosperity,
Bams
